Push your wine boundaries this month

I am a great fan of independent wine store Appellation Wines. It was opened in Dalry in November 2009 by Ashton, with the underlying philosophy of stocking wines that cannot be found elsewhere. With so many different wines out there, why stock those that can be found everywhere? They champion the smaller producer and the lesser-known wine regions. Ashton says he won’t sell anything he wouldn’t drink himself .

A great way to discover more about wine – and beer is with the regular tastings. Tastings cost £10/£15 and start at 8pm. Line up for March goes:

Thurs 17th March Wine and Chocolate £15

Monday 21st Fruity and floral beers

Wed 23 Timeless wines

Tues 29th Wines for lamb – handy for Easter!

In January 2013 they opened theri second shop, at 63 Comely Bank Road (0131 261 7656).  Weekly tastings are held in both shops, alternating between wine, beer and spirit tastings.  They also take great pleasure in hosting bespoke corporate and private tastings. For more information, please call either shop on 0131 202 0985 – Dalry, 0131 261 7656 – Comely Bank.
