A new exhibition at Tatha Gallery invites us to slow down, take time to engross yourself in the beauty of the artworks and spend a few moments contemplating how time and patience is woven into each piece and might also be woven into our own increasingly busy lives.

Slow Praxis comprises work by a diverse group of eight artists* whose work, while not overtly describing environmental issues, deals with their own deep connections to their chosen environments or subjects, pursue the belief that art-making, like living, must be sustainable. Time itself is used as a medium in their slow practice, be it waiting for certain effects to occur, using materials which require time-consuming techniques or employing slow-build methods which evolve over a certain period (Praxis refers to an accepted method or practice).

*Stuart Cairns, David Cass, Roland Fraser, Jean Gillespie, Rita Kermack, Vivian Ross-Smith, Samuel Sparrow, Tim Steward (whose work is pictured), and Iain Stewart.
