Dunfermline boasts a fully-fledged printmakers’ workshop, with Fife Dunfermline Printmakers hosting regular sessions tutored by leading practitioners, and members showing their prints in group exhibitions and solo shows throughout Scotland and the UK.

Its current featured artist is Caroline Finlay, who graduated from Gray’s School of Art, specialising in enamel jewellery, matching especially the use of colour, texture, and mark-making in her etching. Staying not far from Dunfermline, she felt a natural affinity with the local art scene, and found herself drawn to printmaking, over time looking for spaces and groups that could help her take her art further.

She joined Fife Dunfermline Printmakers in 2018 to revisit the printmaking techniques she’d been introduced to at art college, which turned out to be a good move, working with the right materials and equipment alongside other printmakers who share her passion. She’s also a member of Printmakers of Scotland and the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA), working mainly in etching and screenprinting, monoprinting and drypoint. Inspiration comes directly from wild landscapes, especially the Hebrides and the remote North West.

Babs Pease is the current featured tutor at the Workshop: a Scottish artist well-known for her detailed linocut prints and paintings, deriving inspiration from the local landscape, capturing the character and movement of the fauna. Having studied Fine Art in Edinburgh, Babs went on two raise a family and is now printing and tutoring, as a long-time member of the Dunfermline Printmakers Workshop.

Participants appreciate the small groups of just six, and the supportive atmosphere. Sessions are suitable for those new to printmaking, and for those with experience.
