[3rd – 11th August]
A celebration of the visual arts taking place in galleries, homes, studios and other venues throughout the village of Pittenweem.
Inaugurated in 1982, Pittenweem Arts Festival has grown rapidly to become a firm annual destination for art-lovers. This year features no fewer than 134 artists and their work, set in a historic seaside village in the beautiful East Neuk of Fife, with the headlining artists Calum Colvin, Lara Scobie and Line Mortensen.
Viewing art in these surroundings makes a refreshing comparison to the constraints of conventional galleries: the Festival, with its relaxed and friendly atmosphere, set in such a beautiful area to explore, has the power to inspire and surprise, and Pittenweem is known for its wide vistas of sea and sky, contrasting with close-knit cottages and steep stone wynds descending to its harbour.
Over nine days, 25,000 visitors are expected to enjoy a wide variety of exhibitions, workshops, talks, children’s events and evening performances, all related to the arts. There’s ample opportunity meet the artists, listen to free talks or just stroll around the streets and wynds, stopping by any venue that takes your fancy. A stewarded car park makes parking easy and the colourful festival brochure is available to help plan your visit.
