Working with intricate stained glass, ambisonic voices and moving image, Scottish artist and singer Pinkie Maclure has transformed Glasgow CCA’s gallery space into an eerie, abandoned chapel haunted by the echoes of its lost congregation.

Maclure uses a multitude of techniques such as engraving, painting and layering to create poignant, darkly humorous stained glass vignettes full of symbolism to explore her personal demons as well as pressing issues such as climate change, insomnia and addiction.

The centrepiece installation, The Soil, a collaboration with 3D sound scenographer John Wills, is made from 70 per cent salvaged glass from a Victorian greenhouse, which collapsed in a storm. It laments our disappearing countryside and its distracted, fragmented communities while also celebrating nature’s ability to breathe life back into forgotten places.

Widely exhibited outwith Scotland, Pinkie Maclure is an award-winning artist specialising in stained glass and song, and has co-written ten albums of music with Wills. Her work Self-Portrait Dreaming of Portavadie is in the National Museum of Scotland’s collection.
