23rd August – 11th September, Weds – Sat 10am – 5pm

Modern Makers is a programme which allows a small group of young people to learn craft skills from established makers. The Craft of Printmaking is 2019’s theme, exhibiting Modern Makers Ione McCall, Jamie Stryker, Erin Retson, Katy Billington, Blossom McCuaig and Emily Tough, who have worked with the Ottersburn Gallery to showcase a selection of prints they have created during the programme.

Exploring traditional techniques in printmaking, the programme blurs the lines between visual art and craft, reflecting current contemporary practice and opening up interesting discussion around where the boundaries lie. The group has developed work along a theme of their choosing with three printmakers based in Dumfries & Galloway with time split between each maker to allow the exploration of various printmaking techniques and approaches. The three lead artists are Hugh Bryden (specialising in linocut, drypoint and artist books), Pamela Grace (etching and lithography) and Colin Blanchard (screen printing and linocut).

Upland is a bold, ambitious, rural-based visual art and craft development organisation based in Dumfries & Galloway in South West Scotland.
