Until 26 October
Karolina Baines‘ exhibition at the Open Eye Gallery showcases her vibrant and sculptural etched enamel jewellery with a strong focus on texture, strong colour and organic forms. Fascinated by movement and the sculptural, she draws on myriad sources from Venetian architecture to Issey Miyake’s pleated clothing and basketry, to create her rhythmic and tactile works. Many of her pieces possess a linear and tactile quality through her use of enamelled silver and an etching-inspired approach.
Baines studied Jewellery and Silversmithing at Edinburgh College of Art, receiving a first-class honours degree, before going on to become Artist in Residence in the same department. She has won several awards, most recently the Goldsmiths’ Fair Graduate Bursary Award and the Graduate Craft Award, from The Inches Carr Trust.
