Situated in beautiful Perth & Kinross, the arts centre Birnam Arts is showing the work of Jennifer MacLean. Her work ranges from distinctive watercolour paintings to her unique ‘organic wall designs’ – woven with her own hand-spun and naturally-dyed wool. Deriving inspiration from natural textures, and focusing on ‘things enduring’, such as stones, old buildings, vegetation, and landscape, with strong and vital colours, her work exudes a feeling of genuine and absorbing love for what she does.
Jennifer was born and grew up in Australia, graduating from the University of Sydney and teaching high school art in Adelaide; she travelled widely before becoming Community Arts Organiser at the Norwich Arts Centre, Norfolk, England, before moving to Perthshire, where she lives with her husband, Scottish songwriter and recording artist Dougie Maclean, working on his cover art and their music business and recording studio, as well as backgrounds for photographs, film and television. Many of her watercolours and weavings are in private collections in the UK and overseas, and she has held exhibitions in Brazil, Holland, Germany, England, Scotland and Australia. This exhibition is a broad selection of watercolours and weavings including work that has not been viewed before, with work available for sale.
