The role of print in contemporary art practice is celebrated in the 2016 International Print Biennale, the centrepiece of which are the International Print Awards, which in 2014 received submissions from over 740 artists in over 40 countries. Their interpretation of contemporary print processes included 2D, 3D, video, installation and site-speci c work. The exhibitions, spread across 25 venues, attracted over 130,000 visitors. The biennale was established in 2009 by Newcastle’s Northern Print, the northeast’s leading print gallery and gallery.
