Three Spanish masters at Gallagher & Turner in Newcastle features work by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí – artists usually remembered as painters, but who were also prolific printmakers. Always searching for somethings new, Picasso had an experimental approach to printmaking, often in combining the techniques of etching, lithography or woodcut. Miró used printmaking to develop the use of narrative in his work, illustrating over 250 books, often in collaboration with surrealist poets. Dalí also drew on literary works in his prints, producing a suite of etchings based on Alice in Wonderland and of lithographs illustrating The Divine Comedy, among others.
