Fonab Castle Hotel on the banks of Loch Faskally

New horizons

One intriguing opening on the horizon is a hotel in a castle originally built for the Sandeman family, the port and sherry merchants. Fonab Castle Hotel on the banks of Loch Faskally, at Pitlochry in Perthshire, is due to open in April. The hotel is aiming at a five star level and will feature a panoramic, glass-fronted restaurant with stunning loch views, serving locally and internationally inspired dishes in a stylish-casual setting. It will have a total of 31 rooms, 13 of which are housed in the castle. There are also 36 rustic luxury lodges.

In Edinburgh, it’s good to see Glasgow stalwart Tony Macaroni opening up in Bruntsfield. Specialising in authentic Roman-style pizza al taglio, Alla Romana will offer capital residents a taste of the rapidly expanding West Coast empire. Word has also reached ArtMag that Nell Nelson, the “Woman Who Ate Scotland” has taken on another capital café, Mint in Exchange Place. Expect her quality produce and attention to detail to make this a gem to seek out in the conference/business district.
