Taking its title from a W B Yeats poem, To The Waters and The Wild by members of the British Tapestry Group at the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club in Aberlady showcases work inspired by the natural world. The exhibition is accompanied by sculptures by Chris Hindley.

Like many of us, during lockdowns the 30 featured artists rediscovered their immediate environment – the local wood, the beach, birdsong – and found inspiration, or explored memories of encounters with the wild further afield. The aim of the Group is to promote woven tapestry as a contemporary art form which requires a significant investment in time, energy and skill. Relatively rarely on show, tapestry encompasses a variety of figurative and abstract styles.

The SOC promotes the study, protection and enjoyment of wild birds in Scotland.
