Alan B Hayman’s exhibition at Resipole Studios showcases the work of a much-revered Scottish wildlife and landscape artist. Returning to the gallery with new work celebrating the outer fringes of the west coast of Scotland, the range of locations depicted is, as the exhibition’s title says, from Sanna beach, on the Ardnamurchan peninsula – the most westerly point on the British mainland – to the remote archipelago of St Kilda, taking in the smaller islands in between. All these locations have been experienced first-hand by Hayman – entailing travelling the 180 nautical miles to reach St Kilda in a modest-sized boat, stopping at several western isles en route. The resulting work is especially impressive when considering that Hayman (born in Montrose in 1947), has received no formal training.
