Described as ‘an alternative exhibition space run by artists for artists’, Six Foot Gallery was founded in 2010 and occupies the ground floor of central Glasgow’s Pentagon Centre. The director and a revolving team of artists promote emerging and established creative practitioners, supporting a local creative community. It continuously invites artists to exhibit their work through open calls and solo shows.
Current exhibitor Rab Wilson works in landscapes, abstracts, and portraits from his Kilmacolm base. A member of the Paisley Art Institute, his work is intuitive and physical, its textured layers in material such as sand, paper, ink, acrylic, and oil reflecting a fascination with the natural world’s colours, tones, lines, marks, layers, and abstract shapes – resulting in a re-imagination of what he has seen, capturing an emotion or conveying a message. He uses a mixed-media approach.
Rab says, ‘I am particularly interested, as an underlying theme, in the importance of trees to the environment and how they are affected by weather, the abstract shapes they create, and the effect that light has on them.’
