Jim Woodman returns for the fourteenth year – a run broken once by the pandemic – with new work depicting the Inner Hebrides and the northwest Highlands. Jim’s oils and watercolours are noted for his use of strong, vibrant colours, which imbue stark landscapes with warmth and intensity.

He says, ‘I do not seek to portray the landscape as we see it with the naked eye, but to capture the intense emotions I experience in certain places, whether a windswept Scottish hillside with its deep purples and rusts or a tranquil riverside scene. Places move me.’ Jim will be in residence at the gallery throughout the exhibition to welcome visitors and talk about his work.

By an old stone pier on the shores of Loch Hourn, Gallery An Talla Dearg (it means the ‘red hall’) was established by the late Sir Iain Noble to host an annual spring – autumn exhibition programme featuring landscape and wildlife artists.
