Three exhibitions feature at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.

Research + Practice features new work by five artists supported by the RSA’s Residencies for Scotland programme, which since its inception in 2009 has awarded over £300,000 to over 100 artists at all stages of their careers at venues throughout Scotland. Also showing are new paintings by Samantha Clark, winner of the 2021 RSA William Littlejohn Award given to artists working in water-based media.

Sam Ainsley: Stories Real and Imagined includes large-scale paintings, collage works and limited edition prints both recently created as well as some drawn from her back catalogue. She approaches her work as a form of ‘emotional mapping’ which attempts to uncover relationships between natural phenomena, the human body and the human condition.

And, OMOS (an acronym for the phrase ‘O monstrous! O strange!’ quote from A Midsummer Night’s Dream), a new moving-image project that pays homage to Scotland’s untold Black history, celebrating Black excellence and LGBTQ performance in Scotland.
