Morningside Gallery in Edinburgh has a two-person show featuring over fifty paintings inspired by the natural world. Edinburgh College of Art graduate Georgina McMaster is the recipient of numerous awards and her highly detailed paintings of animals, birds and insects have a worldwide following. She depicts each creature against a plain white or linen background, often making direct eye contact with the viewer. A visitor to Scotland since childhood, Julian Mason now spends weeks at a time oil painting ‘en plain air’ and in all weathers the places which inspire him most; such as Glen Coe, Glen Etive, Glenfinnan, Arisaig, Skye and Iona. His paintings are accompanied by Ordnance Survey co-ordinates and notes about each day’s weather.
