&Gallery Edinburgh’s new exhibition showcases the work of Michael CraikECHO is the artist’s first solo exhibition at the Gallery, and presents a new collection of contemplative, minimal acrylic paintings,  produced over the last year, continuing his Veil and Vestige series. Craik explores the interplay of colour and the subtleties of light, as a means of producing quiet, pared-down, reductive artworks, concerned with material quality and the act of making, slowly and methodically producing each work over weeks and months through repeated application and removal of paint, which make his work inviting to close-up scrutiny.

Born in Edinburgh in 1972, Michael has worked as an artist in Scotland for over 20 years, graduating from Fine Art at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen before completing an MA in European Fine Art in Barcelona. He has exhibited internationally and received several awards, and now works in Kinghorn, Fife, in a clifftop studio overlooking the vast firth of Forth, and this location is said to exert an influence on his work. He will be at the Gallery between 12am and 4pm on Saturdays 3rd and 24th October.
