It’s been an awards frenzy recently with ceremonies almost nightly. Rather than repeat all the results, we’ll just mention a couple of those which caught our eye. At the Scottish Thistle Awards, which celebrate excellence and quality in the tourism industry, Room with a View Seafood Restaurant in Aberdour picked up the Best Café, Bar or Restaurant award. Blythswood Square in Glasgow picked up the Best Hotel award and the Whitehouse Country House, near St Boswells in the Borders was named Best Guest House or B&B. Stravaigin, the Glasgow bar and restaurant owned by Carol Wright and Colin Clydesdale, was a notable winner at the 2012 SLTN Awards. The West End venue won in three categories – the Wine, Inspiration and Restaurant of the Year (under £35).
The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh was named one of 10 Global Icons by Fodor’s travel guides and was runner-up (to the Savoy in London) in UK hotel category the Telegraph Travel Awards. Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire was third in the Telegraph category. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s more awards to watch out for – Glasgow Restaurant Awards are announced on 10 December.
