Established in 1982, Edinburgh’s Open Eye Gallery is exhibiting an exhibition of new botanical illustrations by Visual Arts Scotland 2019 Open Eye Gallery award-winner Marianne Hazlewood, Fine Hair, Soft Nibs – Depictions from a Shady Bed. An RHS and BISCOT Gold award-winning botanical artist, Marianne sources and grows her subjects to connecting with them and learning their essence before illustrating them. Based in Edinburgh, she specialises in detailed, photorealistic depictions, demonstrate the structures, patterns and tones in her specimens, and in these later works illustrates shade-loving ferns and Arisaema that she grows indoors and in her garden’s custom shady bed. The media in the exhibition include watercolour and Japanese ink paste pen and ink and screenprints.
