Curated by Edinburgh’s Graystone Gallery, a show of paintings at Edinburgh’s Kimpton Hotel showcases the formidable talents of landscape painters Kerry Souter and Ellis O’Connor.

Gestural abstraction in the context of the Highland landscape, is how best to describe Ellis’ work: she explores the raw elemental presence of the highlands and islands, offering emotional translations of landscapes shaped by weather, memory, and time, and through layered brushwork and shifting palettes, invites us to ‘feel’ what lies between experience ‘where land becomes memory and home’.

Kerry’s coastal contemporary art (see top) complements this, with her energetic expressions of coastal action and erosion, her paintings revisiting familiar haunts, with paths and tidal edges drawing emotion and memory together.
