Stills Centre for Photography in Edinburgh is opening the only analogue photobooth available for public use in Scotland. Popular internationally in the 1960s and 70s, this is Scotland’s only analogue (pre-digital) booth that can be used by the public.

The booths were in widespread use in the twentieth century, counting John Lennon and Yoko Ono and John and Jackie Kennedy among their enthusiasts. They are flourishing again in the 21st century across cities such as New York, Berlin and London – an endangered cultural artefact, but now available to enjoy in Scotland.

Use of the photobooth dates back to 1925, with a rich and vibrant history in popular culture and film photography, and the Stills booth represents, like its predecessors, a way to capture friends, family and colleagues in a set of photographic prints.
