The Maclaurin Gallery in Ayr’s latest online display is Ian McKinnell’s solo exhibition ‘Altered Images’. The exhibition is divided into two sections, Imagined Landscapes and Abstract Constructions: although abstract in result, Ian works from real-world images, retaining an organic ‘memory’ of the world and providing a visual hook for viewers, inviting them to read whatever they wish into them. Another paradoxical feature of them is that while displayed online, the work is highly-physical in construction – collaged or float mounted images, things cut-up, other mixed-media and scanned material, which can be seen in detail on the website.
