Fiona McCrindle, who has run the Gallery since 2019 and is stepping back from 12th March, has said, ‘I’m so pleased for both them, and for the Gallery: they will bring a renewed energy and enthusiasm, excitement and curiosity to the Gallery, with a bold programme for 2026 and several new names joining the roster of top-quality artists already represented throughout the course of the year.’

Fiona, who founded The Edinburgh Drawing School in 2012 and EDS Gallery in 2015, adds that she will continue to help-out part-time, giving ‘gentle encouragement and advice (when asked for!)… I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for supporting the gallery – and all our artists – over these past 7 years. It’s personally been a tremendous privilege to be part of this iconic gallery’s life.

Founded in 1970 by Brian and Jo Torrance, The Torrance was the only contemporary art gallery on the capital’s Dundas Street, which it now shares with several independent galleries, forming the majority of such galleries in Edinburgh.

There will be no interruption to the Gallery’s programme: the current exhibition Transformations, which includes work by continues until 14th March and a new programme will commence from 21st March. The Gallery’s website has been upgraded with a new look.

The Torrance supports the Own Art finance scheme, which makes purchasing artworks more affordable through payment by instalments.
