Japanese Contemporary Design at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh showcases developments in art, craft and design in Japan over the last 50 years, from striking statement jewellery to glass and porcelain sculptures. Cultural events associated with the 1964 Tokyo Olympics prompted Japanese craftmakers to take note of international design, and the work in this display reflects the developments of the following decades, combining traditional artisanship and themes with new materials, inspiration and techniques.
