The groundbreaking animated classic Toy Story, accompanied by the Novello Orchestra and conducted by David Mahoney, is a true delight. The beloved film offers an extraordinary and nostalgic (for some in the audience) adventure with the Oscar and Grammy-winning composer Randy Newman’s musical score performed live to the film. The Novello Orchestra brings to life some of the most recognised and beloved songs of any animated film such as You’ve Got a Friend in Me, Strange Things and I Will Go Sailing No More.

When Toy Story first hit cinemas in 1995 it became an instant worldwide hit and not much has changed since then as it continues to capture the attention of everyone who enters its playful world. The first instalment in the Toy Story franchise, it was the first entirely computer-animated feature film, as well as the first feature film from Pixar. The film is packed with adventure, fantastic characters, and unforgettably distinctive voices that bring those characters to life; we all know and instantly recognise Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. The Novello Orchestra’s performance offers something new and exciting to a screening of a well-known and loved film.

Mahoney gives the audience a warm welcome and invites everyone to take part in joining in when the familiar songs start to play. The whole evening is a pure delight and the adult audience seems just as captured and enamoured by the atmosphere as the younger ones.

A graduate of St Peter’s College, Oxford, Mahoney is the founder and musical director of The Novello Orchestra, who have performed with artists including Kerry Ellis, Ruthie Henshall, The von Trapps, Lee Mead, Matt Cardle, and the American group Pink Martini. The orchestra has become one of the world’s leading film music ensembles, performing a series of Film with Live Orchestra theatre, concert hall, and arena tours across the UK and Ireland, including Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Star Wars, Pixar in Concert, Grease and the Oscar-winning La La Land. The Novello Orchestra provides a stylish, sophisticated take on well-known musical show-stoppers as well as a more contemporary repertoire.

The Novello Orchestra is often praised for its passionate and enigmatic performances, bringing new energy into the orchestral concept. Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story in Concert is a fantastic journey back into your childhood in the company of a stellar performance.
