9 to 5, based on the 1980 film of the same name, was first staged in 2008. Dolly Parton has been responsible for the music and lyrics for the show, but she has also added a little extra spark! When the show starts the audience is ‘greeted’ by the smiling Parton, which sets the tone perfectly for this fun-filled show.
Similarly to the film, 9 to 5 tells a story of a battle between the sexes. At the heart of the show are three fun and independent women who are trying their best to survive in a man’s world – a theme which could not be any more relevant than just now. The cast of the show is incredibly strong and the female leads don’t disappoint. Louise Redknapp, who takes on the role of Violet Newstead, does the role justice both acting and singing-wise.
Georgina Castle, who plays Doralee Rhodes, the role originally taken by Dolly in the film, is an absolute pleasure to watch – she captures the spirit of the show and her character, leaving the audience completely captivated. Amber Davies, who plays Judy Bernly, adds an extra spark on the stage, completing and creating the perfect trio. Her acting and singing abilities are very impressive and enormously entertaining.
This hilarious new production, having enjoyed sell-out success in London’s West End, is about teaming up, standing up and taking care of business!
