Katy Galbraith & Terry Howson: Up the garden path at Artisanand in Aberfeldy features two artists with very different approaches to their work – one more focused on the style and function of the final piece, while for the other the process generates art, but is essential to living life.

Katy Galbraith’s mosaic artworks can be both decorative (pictorial or sculptural) or functional (items such as mirrors, stepping stones or table tops). She works with any number of recycled and salvaged materials in line with her eco/zero waste ethic, and this collection showcases her signature style of brightly-coloured mosaics, reflecting her love of flowers and the outdoor world. Some of her works are suitable for the outdoors, and can be considered ‘garden art’.

Terry Howson’s work is the product of a vivid and restless imagination – on waking she experiences a mental barrage of noise and colour, which calms over time in her studio, as she picks up a painting ready for its next layer, examining and critiquing it, creating a palette and mixing oil paints and cold wax, and finally starting to paint, whereupon the noise vanishes.
