Edinburgh’s Fruitmarket Gallery has announced its plans for reopening in July, following its £4.3m refurbishment, and its inaugural programme, which includes a major presentation of work by Glasgow sculptor Karla Black.

The Gallery’s expansion project, reported by Artmag.co.uk throughout, is nearing completion, with an expected public opening date of 7th July 2021. Karla Black, a Turner Prize nominee, will present a ‘reimagined retrospective’ – a selection of existing sculptures and new work, in a dynamic interplay with the Gallery’s new and refurbished gallery spaces, masterminded by prestige Edinburgh-based architects Reiach and Hall. These spaces will bring the gallery’s next door building, also a former fruit and vegetable warehouse, into use as an expansive, inspirational arts space.

This will allow the Fruitmarket to realise its ambitions of delivering a year-round multi-arts programme, by hosting a year-round performance, dance, live literature programme, and a range of multi-artform events, making it Scotland’s newest centre for contemporary culture.
