Edinburgh’s Scottish Gallery is mounting a celebration during June of artist James Morrison, one of Britain’s finest landscape painters and, for sixty-one years, one of the Gallery’s longest-serving exhibiting artists: its Viewing Rooms are now live, and the entire exhibition space has been dedicated to his life and career, with paintings from all around rural Scotland, north to the High Arctic, south to Glasgow, east to Catterline in Aberdeenshire, and abroad. Morrison’s family have donated his personal archive of paintings, sketchbooks and awards, to give a penetrating insight into the artist’s family life and painting practice. A Gallery Late on Thursday 9th June offers a chance to enjoy a glass of wine, to view the exhibition and to join John Morrison, author of James Morrison Land & Landscape, for a Q&A session. A film about the exhibition can be viewed on the Gallery’s website.
