Gallery Q Dundee’s new exhibition is an opportunity to view the latest collection by John Lowrie Morrison, aka ‘Jolomo’ – one of Scotland’s most popular living artists – as he revisits one of his favourite subjects. He says: ‘My enduring fascination with the Scottish croft goes back a long way. My family came from a ‘black house’ on the Isle of Harris. I am obsessed with the croft gable end, even when a croft is disused, as with those vacated during the Highland Clearances. The croft may fall down in ruin, but the gable end remains like an epitaph.’
In 2005, Morrison established The Jolomo Foundation, a charitable body aimed at promoting and encouraging Scottish landscape painting, donating a percentage of his sales and artworks to charity. In 2011 he received an OBE for services to art and charity. Four of his paintings are in the Scottish Government’s Parliament Collection and celebrity collectors include Madonna, Sting and Lord Chris Patten.
