Glasgow Print Studio is showing an exhibition of prints by John Byrne – a retrospective exhibition of print work by the highly-respected Scottish playwright, writer and artist who turned 80 this year. The works have all been produced at Glasgow Print Studio since the early 1990’s, and the exhibition includes a selection of new and exclusive hand-coloured screenprints created at the studio in 2020, showcasing Byrne’s fluid draughtsmanship, directness and humour.
The artist has been using Glasgow Print Studio’s facilities since the 1970s, publishing a significant and diverse body of work in print, and his instantly-recognisable style needs no introduction – particularly true in Scotland, where his work is held in major collections including those of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, and the Museum of Modern Art and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.
A companion exhibition is on show of photographs by David Eustace, who has photographed Byrne since 1989, making him his most-revisited subject.
