Leith School of Art is presenting Jenny Martin’s drawings, paintings and prints as its Corridor Exhibition. Jenny is a tutor at the School, and, having worked there for over twenty years decided to focus on her relationship with the Leith area – the shops, people, docks and industry – resulting in a documentary of how the town has changed in the 21st century. Jenny says, ‘there is an honesty and humour about a lot of the things you see in Leith, as well as a slight run-down quality borne of hard work and lack of money. Until relatively recently, Leith was a separate town to Edinburgh, and although it is now just another district of the city, it has retained its unique identity’.
There will be an open afternoon on 25th September, 12:30 – 4:30, when Jenny will be giving short talks about her work and demonstrate how she has made some of her pieces; her sketchbooks and printing plates will be available to view, alongside the exhibition itself.
