Sculptor Kathryn O’Kell has a new collection of beautifully-crafted lime wood panels, mostly of birds, at Roger Billcliffe Gallery in Glasgow. Working directly on the wood using hand tools, Kathryn gradually applies layers of paint, which she rubs back, sometimes adding metal leaf before burnishing the surfaces to achieve the desired effect. The carvings range in scale from tiny domestic pieces to large panels and architectural works.
