Edinburgh artist-led gallery SANKI is showing Wet Wood or left out to dry, which directly examines contemporary depictions of nature and climate, through environmental anxiety, traditional reconnection, and an emerging ‘alternate futurist’ lens.

Melanie Guatelli, Eilidh Guthrie, Tally Tunnell, Oli Turner, Lyndsay McColl, Kristina Gondova, Aimie Harding, Emily McLatchie, Emilia Santaella, and Ella Markell mix domestic and scientific experimentation with working with, from, and for nature, exploring the human role in environmental intervention in the climate crisis, and incorporating research inquiry into Scottish wetlands and waters, and practices seeking traditional – even Neolithic – knowledge.

In the face of over-consumption, their creative craft renegotiates the human connection with the natural world, by reclaiming clay, wood and natural pigments – materials that comfort us with their abundant life and organisms, yet betray a sad loss.

Inaugurated last year, SANKI was set-up to provide a unique space to guide emerging artists and recent graduates from the world of DIY spaces to the world of professional commercial galleries, without the pressure and inaccessibility of grand fine art institutions. The gallery is committed to selecting the best new Scottish and international talent, allowing collectors and buyers to interact with the most exciting artistic voices in Scotland, while established artists can exhibit to foster conversations and collaborations.
