The Hopetoun Town & Country Fair on 27 and 28 July brings together all things foodie (producers and tastings as well as handcrafted kitchen products) with art, crafts and design (clothes and accessories) and a good helping of outdoor fun. The fair runs alongside International Horse Trails, with top names form the equestrian world competing over a course designed by Captain Mark Phillips. One of the jump sponsors is AGA which will be staging cookery demonstrations on the West Lawn throughout each day.
Hopetoun’s own Farm Shop will be joined by Acanthus Pies, Buffalo Farm and Puddledub to tickle the taste buds. Definitely the best way to take in the event is the Afternoon Tea package. Tea in the stables is always rather special: there’s a fairly traditional spread but it’s hand made by Aisha and Ali. Sandwiches are filled with the best of Scottish produce and the cakes imaginative – vivid pineapple macaroons perhaps, or delicate berry meringue or even delicious white chocolate and raspberry slice. Not only is there the sumptuous tea, but the £35 ticket includes car parking near the house, entrance to VIP areas like the Water Jump Bar and free access to activities like clay shooting, archery and quad biking.
