The Galloway Hoard: Viking-Age Treasure at Kirkcudbright Galleries features a cache of objects uncovered by a metal detectorist in 2014, now in the care of National Museums Scotland. The exhibition offers the first chance to see details hidden for over a thousand years, revealed by expert conservation, painstaking cleaning and cutting-edge research. Comprising over a hundred items, the Galloway Hoard is the richest collection of rare and unique Viking-age objects ever found in Britain or Ireland. They include arm-rings, beads, pendants, brooches, bracelets and unusual objects such as a silver pendant cross and a gold, bird-shaped pin.
