Colinton Arts gallery in Edinburgh is seeking to help us recapture the special sensations we recall from early age through its latest exhibition, Sublime & Savoury, which features two Scottish artists currently making a name for themselves in their respective fields. Kerry Souter‘s abstract works tend to convey feelings of peace and tranquility. Nicola McBride‘s intricate penmanship, draw – literally – on our culture of graphic design, taste and nostalgia, in everyday objects. Kerry is a Gray’s School of Art graduate, based in Ayr, whose acrylics and mixed-media works derive inspiration from her personal connections and memories relating to the wild expanses of Scottish beaches. An interesting touch is her incorporation of textiles into her work on wood block. Also a Gray’s School alumna, Perth-based Nicola is known for her unique, intricate work in colour BIC biro pens depicting domestic packaging and other subjects including antique ordnance map, old envelopes and newspapers, in response to her Dundee childhood, hence marmalade, pick-n-mix penny chews, and the Beano.
