A large group of artists has taken part in The Postal Exchange – a collaborative project resulting in a new exhibition at Leith Makers of collage, photography and mixed media.

The twenty-four artists have been matched randomly, with each pair exchanging art materials and ideas via the post over several months. The goal of the project was to spark new creative practices, shake-up existing working methods and encourage playful collaboration, incorporating artists of varying experience and background in a playful one-to-one exchange of ideas, encouraging new forms of expression, fostering creative fun, collaboration and new connections. Each of the twenty-four participating artists has selected a single piece from their Postal Exchange series to display.

There is the opportunity for visitors to join in by contributing to a massive ‘living collage’ blank canvas, which will form an artwork over time. There will also be a a commemorative ‘zine to accompany the exhibition.

Miriam Morris, who curated the show and participates in it, said, ‘This project has been a wonderful opportunity for creative play and has helped form a network of peer support. Choosing materials for another artist was challenging but equally meditative, and it was exciting to see what ‘goodies’ I’d receive in return. You can expect to see a mix of collage, mixed-media, photography, and cyanotype on display. For many of the artists, this will be their first time having work exhibited to the public—an exciting moment for them!’.
