A new exhibition at Edinburgh’s Nomads Tent links Africa’s ancient textile traditions with contemporary work. Under Africa Skies is curated by Maggie Relph and Bob Irwin of The African Fabric Shop in Yorkshire, who have travelled around Africa for nearly 40 years, observing craftspeople and documenting the history of their textiles. The exhibition includes a range of hands-on fabric crafting kits, textile artifacts and clothes, textile art for walls and a collection of representative pieces. Also showing is a new collection of quilts by Pat Archibald and the Scottish Textile Art Group inspired by African Kuba cloth.

Nomads Tent is a warehouse ethically sourced tribal art, oriental carpets, contemporary rugs, kilims, jewellery, artefacts and furniture directly imported from Iran, India, Afghanistan, Turkey, the Caucasus, Pakistan and the Himalayan Kingdoms.
