After an uncertain and tumultuous time for Ullapool art centre An Talla Solais, it has announced its first exhibition of the year: the Bridge House Arts Portfolio Course will be exhibiting its annual exhibition, GLIMPSE, at the centre’s Market Street studios.
The full-time, immersive course comprises eleven students, ranging in age from 18 to 70+, who began in October 2021. Four came from the Highlands, but most travelled from much further afield, with one even crossing the Atlantic to join the group, who all made Ullapool their home for the duration of the course. The exhibition promises a thought-provoking range of art from figurative to abstract, and students’ sketchbooks and portfolios will be on display, giving an insight into the creative process.
The centre has been awarded £27,000 by the Highland Coastal Communities fund towards the refurbishment of the Market Street premises – an award hugely influenced by the support received from a Crowdfunding campaign.
A private preview of Glimpse will take place at An Talla Solais, Market Street on 26th February, 6pm – 8pm.
The artist and ceramicist Jeanne Blissett Robertson has begun the centre’s first residency of the year; Jeanne graduated from Glasgow School of Art in Sculpture and Environmental Art, and lives and works in Edinburgh.
