Introducing Gerry Irvine at Eion Stewart Fine Art in Stonehaven showcases an artist whose landscapes are solely inspired by her home in Coigach – a remote peninsula north of Ullapool where a few hamlets are strung out over an ancient region of hills, bare croftland, beaches and islands.
Gerry says, ‘I feel driven to make work about this special place and my experience of moving around in it. My interest lies in the shape of the land, the colours in the landscape, the changing light, the wild weather and the marks left by humanity – old walls, fence posts, telegraph poles and ruined crofts. I feel immersed in it physically and emotionally.’
