The Alchemy Experiment in Glasgow is presenting a rare opportunity to see a collection of Glasgow artist Gerard M Burns‘ original artworks, drawings and watercolours from the Winter, Angel and Mythology collections and a collaboration with Scottish Ballet. There are also some recent hand-crafted sculptures.
Mostly noted for his modern-day translations of traditional themes, Burns has works in the permanent collection of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and his portrait of politician Margo McDonald is permanently installed in the Scottish Parliament. Working with a bold palette on a massive scale, his canvases still manage to convey an almost domestic intimacy, with relatives, friends and neighbours all used as models.
The gallery will also be representing Burns’ work at Reveal (formerly the Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair) at the SEC on 19th – 21st May.
