Georgina McMaster: Into the Wild at Morningside Gallery in Edinburgh showcases an artist known for her striking paintings of animals, birds and insects. A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, she has travelled extensively on research trips to see animals in their natural habitats, photographing and sketching them at close quarters, and proving particularly adept at depicting fur and feathers so realistically you want to reach out and touch them. Her animals have real presence, their character standing out against a plain white or linen background, and these new paintings are based mainly on a recent visit to the Masai Mara in Kenya alongside others of animals and insects captured closer to home.
The Gallery’s website is exemplary, offering the chance to view its exhibitions’ paintings in close resolution, including an ‘on the wall’ view, among artists’ biographies and show catalogues.
