Francis Boag was previously principle art teacher at Aberdeen’s Grammar School and only became a full-time artist when he turned 50. He has since enjoyed considerable success and marks his 70th birthday later this year. His spring solo exhibition at Aberdeen’s Gallery Heinzel features over 30 pieces on his favourite subjects: coastal landscapes, holiday memories of San Pedro, Positano and Val D’Isere, still life compositions and portraits. One of Scotland’s leading contemporary painters, Boag is noted for his vivid colours, skilled drawing and use of mixed media, including scraps of old books, sheet music and even napkins.
