Frames Gallery in Perth is hosting the first solo show by Jan Radnan, who recently moved to Perthshire, having lived in Spain since retirement. This is her first exhibition in the UK for some time.
Says gallery co-owner Hugh Gorman, ‘One of the advantages of having a framing workshop alongside the Gallery is that from time to time something very lovely comes in to be framed and this is what happened with Jan. My wife Julie and I came into the workshop and saw a beautiful painting that had just been framed, but no one knew who painted it. When Jan came to collect it, Julie asked who the artist was and Jan said it was herself and that she had loads more. So here we are with a beautiful collection of twenty paintings.
‘This exhibition shows her to be an artist who should be far better known. Her work encompasses the almost ethereal paintings of plants in pots to her much more vibrant paintings of the landscape, but all underpinned by a wonderful technique and a refined aesthetic.’
