The Nomads Tent in Edinburgh is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. A veritable warehouse of kilims, rugs, furniture, wall hangings, textiles, ceramics, jewellery and other tribal and village crafts sourced direct from Asia and North Africa, its hand-woven vintage and contemporary tribal rugs mix ancient inherited patterns with abstract modernist designs, driven by the creativity of the weaver and inspired by the mountainous landscapes in which they were created.

Nomads is also part of this year’s World Textile Day Scotland, with the theme ‘Threads For Life’, highlighting the many ways that textile traditions are continued, developed and passed down through generations of textile makers, designers and wearers.
