For an authentic taste of France, try the special theme nights at Le Bistrot in the Institut français d’Ecosse in Edinburgh. Les Dîners du Bistrot have been conceived to celebrate French food in all its diversity with special evening openings of the newly reopened Bistrot de l’Institut. The next event celebrates the French taste for North African dishes, with a couscous night on 23 October. (Couscous was voted France’s third favourite dish in a 2011 study). Also coming up is the chance to welcome this year’s Beaujolais nouveau with a plate of cheeses and caillettes on 15 November and to try Provence’s traditional Christmas fare – Le gros souper followed by 13 desserts – on 4 December. Book in advance.
