Food Shop Till You Drop: Edinburgh’s three regular Farmers’ Markets

Edinburgh is so lucky with its good range of Farmers Markets and congratulations to all holders who were braving the February winds on Sunday 21 February at the Stockbridge Market. I love the sheer variety and diversity – many stallholders choose to come to the markets once a month even though the markets run weekly so every week there are some of the familiar and delicious – that’s you Marshmallow Lady Nicole Roberts- and Steam punk coffee.

This week I discovered The Auchtermuchty Cake Co who specialise in hand-made cakes, puddings and pastries made from gluten free flour blends which taste as great as traditional home-made baking so that everyone can eat our cakes and enjoy them, not just those with special dietary requirements. I bought  The Creole Fruitcake which comes in three sizes and the Apricot and ginger winter fruit cake packed full of sultanas, apricots, almonds, pecans, spices stem ginger cherries and brandy and no gluten relying on a gluten free blend of flours. They will be at Edinburgh Farmers’ Market & Stockbridge Market every third weekend of the month from the New Year as well as our usual home at St. Andrews Farmers’ Market every first Saturday.

Stockbridge market takes place next to the Water of Leith every Sunday 10:00 – 17:00, the market’s combination of top quality artisan producers, farmers and takeaway food stalls made it an instant hit when it started in 2011.


Plus there is a similar farmers markets at Dock Place, Leith Edinburgh, EH6 6LU

Saturdays 10:00 – 17:00 and on Fridays there are fifty stalls set up in Waverley by Local Motive Markets, offering ethical and local products from fresh produce to crafts 11:00 – 19:00
