Dovecot Studios is taking part in Collect, the international art fair for contemporary craft and design, joining over thirty international galleries. The Studios is presenting its own curated online display showcasing tapestries and hand-crafted rugs created with contemporary artists, including a major new piece with Scottish artist Jock McFadyen. Throughout the fair, the Studios is offering an online glimpse behind the scenes, showing the creation of a new gun-tufted rug inspired by a painting by McFadyen , and an online exhibition featuring tapestries and rugs created with Sir Peter Blake, Barbara Rae RA RSA, Jim Lambie, Liz Rideal, and Kurt Jackson. In addition, several works designed and woven by the Dovecot weaving team will be on display, exploring the role of weaver as designer.
COLLECT 2021 is a Crafts Council initiative, presented on the Artsy platform Artsy.net, where each gallery will have its own online ‘booth’ to display its artists’ work for sale. A number of digital and virtual events, talks and tours from leading gallerists, artists, and leading figures across art, fashion and culture will take place until 2nd March, and thereafter, the fair will remain online until 26 March, giving buyers a longer opportunity to purchase work. More than thirty galleries have been confirmed to date, including from Scotland and the UK, US, Thailand, France, Hong Kong, Netherlands, South Korea, Norway, China, and Germany; those from Edinburgh include Gallery TEN and Dovecot Studios.
